Derek

Derek Leonard is a volunteer for YHouse. His background includes over four years working in the program evaluation and strategic planning areas at a U.S.-based private foundation as well as graduate study in philosophy at Brandeis University.

In his foundation role, Derek bore significant responsibility for the collection, collation, and analysis of data bearing on the performance of grant initiatives spanning the research, education, media, and other sectors. He also contributed to multiple projects intended to sharpen the strategic aims of a variety of program areas.

As a philosophy student, Derek’s interests included the proper grounds for adjudicating ontological disagreements, the basic structures of certain types of conscious experience, and how art interacts with our emotions.

Derek is currently working on several popular writing projects that are partly inspired by his earlier philosophical work but will seek to extend it in new directions.
